Today, I had an experience that really blessed me.
This semester, I am required to take Philosophy for my degree plan. This evening, I went to Half Price Books to see if I could buy the required text for less than its original price. Its regular price is only $7.99, so I was not at all worried about not being able to find the piece of literature.
After searching throughout the store on a mission to find the text, I finally asked a staff member for assistance. He led me to the "ReLigion" section, and there my book rested between writings on Christianity and Mormonism.
I proceeded to the register, where I stood in line for a mere five minutes. Little did I know that in this five minutes, I would be blessed in an encounter with two strangers standing in line behind me.
Following me in the line to check out was a man and woman in their late-forties-to-early-fifties. The woman spoke to me offering her 10% off teacher discount card off my purchase. I kindly accepted and thanked her for the gesture, as any percent off helps when you're a struggling college student, lol!
As minutes passed there in line, I proceeded to tell the couple about the book that I had in hand. I explained that it was one of my required texts for the philosophy class I would be taking this semester in school. The man then took me by surprise in saying, "It's a shame that they don't teach the Bible in schools anymore." This statement made me take a moment to think about what i would reply with next. "I actually want to study ministry..." I replied, suddenly interrupted by the cashier signaling mu turn to check out.
As I reached for my wallet, the woman smiled and said " Your money is no good here," and proceeded to pay for my book. It was in this moment that I felt so blessed.
I thanked the coupled and told them to "Have a blessed day." When I said these simple four words, the woman's entire expression shifted. Her eyes became bright and her smile doubled in size. She reacted by embracing me in a hug, and it was in that moment that I could feel the Holy Spirit at work.
The book may have only costed $4.00, but to me, the experience was priceless.
